Cooperations by geographical areas

SWITZERLAND

In the past, Switzerland stayed quite in retreat with respect to European projects (we only have 7 projects in common) and the exchanges with this country do not attain the levels which would be expected regarding the quality of its research.

Most of the cooperations are made with French-speaking institutions like Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (parallel computations, distributed systems, numerical simulations) and the University of Geneve ( medical informatics, man-machine dialog). frequent exchanges are also made with the University of Fribourg (identification and optimisation of systems in physics and in the environment) and the University of Berne (computer vision).

In 1995, SGFI signed its adhesion to the ERCIM consortium. SGFI groups numerous universities and research organisations in Switzerland. Following this partnership INRIA was able to develop its relations with ETH (Zurich) on advanced image segmentation techniques and 3D modelisation of the environment. In the "Italian" part of Switzerland the CSCS centre which operated a parallel NEC machine could become a partner in the future due to the fact that INRIA has started to work on the same machine recently.
