International Relations of INRIA

Cooperations by geographical areas

ARGENTINA

The cooperation between INRIA and Argentina started in the '70s with the organisation of several courses and seminars at the University of Rosario. Computer hardware was also sent and since then INRIA has trained several Argentinian doctoral students and high level scientists. Long visits are given priority because of the distance separating both countries. Since 1990, on the average, 8 visits take place each year representing 4 man-years and 5 French researchers visit Argentina (3 man-years).

This cooperation includes the execution of scientific expertises on demand from Argentinian organisations (in particular the SECYT Secretariat for Science and Technology). In November 1994, the FRANCIA 2000 fair took place in Buenos Aires and INRIA presented a booth where 50 common achievements were presented. The Institute also organised a Research-Industry meeting to put forward its experience in technology transfer.

Lately most of the cooperations engaged involve along with the Argentinian partners, researchers from Chili and Uruguay. These are axed along two main research lines coordinated on the Argentinian side by the Beppo Levi Mathematical Institute of the University of Rosario. Several other local Universities and research centres are participating. The projects contain an significant training component and important industrial fallouts. For more details see: research lines .

In the last 9 years, 62 scientific papers were published in specialised journals and 70 presentations in national or international congresses were made. Since 1995, 3 doctoral thesis have been presented and 5 others are currently being prepared.
